Madonna was “rundown” but ignored signs of illness to press on with rehearsals for her tour, it has been reported.

The Queen of Pop, 64, was admitted to the intensive care unit with a “serious bacterial infection” last month but is now thought to be recovering at home in the US.

She had been due to start her eagerly anticipated Celebration tour in July but after she fell ill her manager Guy Oseary said on Instagram that she would need to “pause” all of her commitments.

“She ignored some symptoms of illness for quite a while because she thought they would go away,” claimed a music insider.

“But she didn’t want to take time away from rehearsals. She was rundown and not feeling 100% for a while in anticipation of her tour.”

Another was quoted as saying that the Material Girl had been very busy and was “not taking care of herself”.

Madonna, who has six children, had been due to start her 84-date Celebration world tour on July 15.

It has been reported that the Vogue singer was hospitalised after being found unresponsive at her home in New York.
