The photograph was shared with media on Sunday (March 10) but it was withdrawn by international picture agencies later the same day because of concerns that the image had been manipulated. Chaos erupted after the world’s biggest news photography agencies issued “kill notices” over concerns that the image had been “manipulated”.

Observant viewers spotted several “errors” in the photo, from Prince Louis’ hand position to mismatched lines and clothing patterns. Other “editing faults” include Kate’s missing wedding ring, Princess Charlotte’s half-missing sleeve and blurred skirt and Kate’s misplaced zip.

People were also talking about Prince George’s arm looking out of place, the paths and windows behind them seemingly slightly distorted, and how the trees look like it’s late autumn, which doesn’t fit with when they say the photo was taken. The photo fail has got everyone talking, including Good Morning Britain’s Richard Arnold on his new podcast, The Sidebar.

The showbiz correspondent is joined every Monday by different familiar faces including TOWIE’s Bobby Norris, Anna Whitehouse, I’m A Celebrity’s Snoochie Shy, Lauren Layfield and Rezzy Ghadjar for a honest chat about all the stories that hit the headlines. During the latest episode, Richard discussed Kate’s apology with Bobby.

Richard said: “The photo was withdrawn from various platforms because it didn’t meet certain standards and she’s admitted to sort of playing, like any artist or any photographer, with the image. I suppose giving it a little bit of a polish for want of a better expression. I mean, I feel for her to be quite honest, because we’ve all done it.”

Bobby said: “She’s actually come out and apologised. She hasn’t done anything wrong! To kind of do a public apology, I mean I’ll hold my hands up, I don’t think there’s a lot of people out there whether it’s a filter or a certain app that won’t be named where people do a little bit of smoothing. I’ve smoothed myself a little bit in photos but never gone as far as kind of snatching in my waist or making anything bigger or smaller. But I’ve definitely kind of gave myself a little smooth and I mean I love a filter, I’m only human.

“Kate, if you want to sit there getting well on the sofa in your pyjamas on your phone, I mean, I don’t know if this is how she done it, but I just imagine if she isn’t feeling well, she’s got a bowl of tomato soup; maybe Loose Women in her dressing gown, and she’s just face tuning her photo. Kate, honestly, bless your heart darling. Don’t feel the need to apologise to anyone; if you want to have a play about with your photos then you play about. Let’s have it right, she’s the future Queen of England, she ain’t got that much time on her hands to master filtering her photos.”
