This Morning’s Cat Deeley forced to apologise after making blunder during show debut

Cat Deeley was forced to apologise after making an error on This Morning.

Cat, 49, and Ben Shephard, 49, made their debut on the ITV programme on Monday (March 11) after they were confirmed as the show’s permanent hosts. The TV duo have taken over from Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby following their exits last year.

Halfway through the show, Cat made a mishap when she incorrectly read out a number for viewers to use to get in contact. The Tipping point presenter stepped in, pointing out that there was an extra zero on the end.

“In America I think it’s O800 numbers isn’t it?” Ben asked as Cat agreed, claiming she made the mistake because she had Esther Rantzen’s Childline number in her head.

“That’s where I’m getting it from,” she insisted before apologising to viewers. It comes after Ben was issued a word of warning about working with Cat ahead of their debut.

Speaking at the beginning of the show, Cat couldn’t hide her excitement at being given the opportunity to front the programme. She said: “We are so excited to be here, this show has been a part of our lives for so long. So to actually be here standing here is good.”

Ben, who left Good Morning Britain last month after 10 years on the show, chipped in: “Everyone has been so kind. Thank you to everyone who has sent us lovely messages of support.”

But it’s wasn’t just praise the pair received as ITV bosses aired a cheeky message from some of their celebrity pals. Ben added: “But Cat, I’ve had a little word of warning about working with you from a couple of your old mates.”

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnely then appeared on screen as they shared a sweet tribute to their former SMTV co-host. Reflecting on their time working together, Ant couldn’t resist mentioning Cat’s wild partying.

He said: “A little bit of a word of advice for Ben about Cat, because we’ve worked with Cat and she might be all sweetness and light, but that girl can party. That girl can party, don’t think she can’t.”

Dec cheekily added: “Keep a lock on the drinks cabinet.” Cat didn’t attempt to defend herself, laughing: “Listen, I always believe in work hard, play hard.”
