Dua Lipa Opens Charity Livestream to Help Refugees

    Instagram

The ‘New Rules’ hitmaker has kicked off a day-long star-studded virtual concert held to raise money to aid refugees during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
    May 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dua Lipa kicked off the 24-hour One Humanity Live virtual concert by urging fans to support charities helping refugees during the coronavirus crisis.
The singer, who is a Kosovo refugee, performed a three-song set from her home in London during the livestream benefit.
“During this time it’s good to be kind to yourself, to ask for support from the people around you,” she told fans. “For the frontline workers, all their work is not going unnoticed, they are putting themselves on the line to look after other people. When this is over slowly as a community we can help rebuild our economy in whatever way.”
“Support the charities that are close to you, support the charities that also support refugees and people who really don’t have the opportunity to self-isolate, that do live in overcrowded areas.”
“I think in whatever way you can, if you have the opportunities to donate to charities and help people out, and call your friends and reach out to them and see what they are doing. All those things are important during this time. That way we can look after each other collectively.”
The day-long One Humanity Live event will feature at-home performances from Ricky Martin, Becky G, Cee-Lo Green, Melanie Chisholm, and Jason Derulo among others.
Donations made by viewers will go to the Constellation Dream Fund, which will benefit charities like the Global Gift Foundation and Medecins Sans Frontieres.
The show can be viewed at the Constellation website.

Dua Lipa: Female Pop Stars Have to Work Harder for Their Vision to Be Taken Seriously

    Instagram

When speaking about her struggle in the beginning of her career, the ‘Don’t Start Now’ hitmaker additionally opens up about why she often pens uplifting lyrics in her songs.
    Apr 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dua Lipa struggled to be taken seriously as a female artist starting out in the music industry.
The British pop star has quickly become one of the biggest names in music thanks to hits including “New Rules”, “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical”, but speaking on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast (https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/dua-lipa-future-nostalgia-podcast-990562/), the singer admitted achieving her star status wasn’t easy.
“Artists in pop, especially women, have to work harder to be taken seriously,” she said. “You have to work a lot harder for people to really believe that these are your lyrics, that this is your vision.”
Dua went on to share that she often pens uplifting lyrics to help her feel more empowered, citing the line “I know you ain’t used to a female alpha” from the title track to her second album “Future Nostalgia” as an example.
“When I put lyrics like that into my record, and I perform them, I do feel more empowered and stronger, and yeah, I’m like, ‘I am a female alpha,’ ” she mused. “But it’s also recognition that we are built on the backs of giants. There have been strong, influential women since I was very little in the music industry: Pink, Alicia Keys, Nelly Furtado, Madonna, Janet Jackson.”
The star, 24, went on to insist she loves all of her songs – because she knows they give her fans so much joy.
“People go, ‘Are you bored of singing the same song over and over again?’ I’m not, because it’s not really about me in that instance – it’s about the listeners,” she smiled.

Dua Lipa: Releasing 'Future Nostalgia' During COVID-19 Crisis Brought Me Closer to Fans

    Instagram

Aside from stressing on the importance of showing vulnerable side, the girlfriend of Anwar Hadid reveals that she has been binge-watching TV series and films amid the coronavirus lockdown.
    Apr 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dua Lipa decision to release her new album during the coronavirus pandemic has brought her closer to her fans.
The singer decided not to delay “Future Nostalgia”, sticking to the 4 April release date she initially planned, and Dua now believes showing her vulnerable side to listeners during these difficult times was a good choice.
“This is me going into my celestial beliefs, but it was like, ‘OK, this is just how it’s meant to be,’ ” she tells Elle. “And I am really grateful that the music is out.
“The way I write my music, I’m always very open, and I allow myself to be vulnerable. And I feel now more than ever that it’s brought me closer to my listeners. I think it’s important to talk about your emotions and to be vulnerable and to show that you’re human.”

The 24-year-old has been embracing her downtime amid the lockdown, revealing she and boyfriend, Anwar Hadid, have been binging shows and films.

“Oh my God, I’ve watched so many shows – ‘Ozark’, ‘Tiger King’, ‘The Night Of’, ‘The Outsider’, ‘Servant’… and lots of movies, too,” she shares, adding she and Anwar have also been cooking up a storm, trying to find the upside to the current situation.

“It’s about making things fun, coming up with different recipes, trying out things that we’ve never done before,” she adds. “Of course Anwar misses his family, and soon we’ll hopefully get to go back and see them… but now that we get all this extra time, we’re just making the most of it. And that’s been really nice. We’re trying to see the bright side.”

Dua Lipa Marks Her First No 1 Album in U.K. With 'Future Nostalgia'

The ‘New Rules’ singer climbs to the top spot on the British albums chart with her sophomore set, pushing aside last week’s champion 5 Seconds of Summer’s ‘Calm’.
    Apr 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dua Lipa’s new release “Future Nostalgia” has become the pop star’s first chart-topping album in the U.K.
The singer came close to reaching the summit in 2017, when her self-titled debut peaked at three, but now she has finally landed her a first number one after “Future Nostalgia” rises one place to top Friday’s Apr10, 2020 Official Charts Company rundown.
Expressing her delight, Dua tells OfficialCharts.com, “Getting a Number 1 in my home country is a dream come true!! I’m so grateful for all the love and the support, especially during these difficult times. Sending love to all of you and thank you for everything.”
The “New Rules” hitmaker finishes 7,000 chart sales ahead of her nearest rival, Lewis Capaldi’s “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent”, which climbs three places to two.
The Weeknd’s “After Hours” is at three, Harry Styles’ “Fine Line” rises to four, and Billie Eilish’s “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” completes the top five.
The Weeknd also hangs on to the top spot in the singles chart, with “Blinding Lights” spending its seventh non-consecutive week at number one.
Saint Jhn’s “Roses” is at two and Drake’s “Toosie Slide” enters the chart at three. There’s also more chart success for Dua, as her tracks “Physical” and “Don’t Start Now” are at four and five on the singles chart.

5 Seconds of Summer Wins Race Against Dua Lipa to Top U.K. Albums Chart

    Interscope Records

The ‘She Looks So Perfect’ band dominates the albums chart across the pond with their new album ‘Calm’, beating ‘Future Nostalgia’ from the ‘IDGAF’ hitmaker.
    Apr 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – 5 Seconds of Summer have beaten Dua Lipa to number one in a knife-edge U.K. albums chart battle.
The Aussie pop rockers’ new record “Calm” recorded just 550 more chart sales than Dua’s sophomore collection “Future Nostalgia” to top Friday’s April 3, 2020 Official Charts Company rundown.
It is the band’s second British number one album after 2015’s “Sounds Good Feels Good”.
In third place is the collaboration from British rappers Skepta, Chip and Young Adz, Insomnia, with The Weeknd’s “After Hours” at four and Lewis Capaldi’s “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent” completing the top five.
The best-selling track of the year so far, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights”, returns to the top of the singles chart for a third stint at number one, knocking Saint Jhn’s “Roses” down to two.
There’s also consolation for Dua Lipa after missing out on the albums chart crown as she has two tracks in the top five of the singles rundown, with “Physical” and “Don’t Start Now” rising to three and four respectively, ahead of Joel Corry’s “Lonely”, which slips down one spot to five.
