'The Conjuring 3' Described as the 'Biggest' and 'Darkest' Movie in Franchise

    New Line Cinema

Michael Chaves who takes over the helming duty from James Wan claims the upcoming ‘Devil Made Me Do It’ installment is the scariest ‘Conjuring’ movie in the horror franchise.

    Apr 25, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Michael Chaves has described “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” as the “biggest” movie in the franchise yet.

The “Curse of La Llorona” director has taken over from James Wan to helm the latest instalment of the horror series, which stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, and believes it is “darker” than previous movies.

Michael said, “In a lot of ways, this is the biggest Conjuring movie. I showed the final cut to Vera and her husband and they agreed, and they were like, ‘This is the darkest Conjuring movie.’ ”

“It digs into some really dark material. This is definitely a case where there’s real consequence, there’s real victims.”

The plot is inspired by real-life cases investigated by Ed and Lorrain Warren, with the latest movie based on a man who claimed that the reason he killed his landlord was because he was possessed by demons with Chaves noting the similarities between the case and the 1995 crime thriller “m=Se7en]”, which follows a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as the basis for his murders.

Michael told IGN, “One of the things that James and I connected on while making The Curse of La Llorona was sharing a lot of the same favourite movies, and one of them is Se7en.”

“We both love that movie, and so when he came to me with this script, he basically was like, ‘It’s Se7en, but in the Conjuring universe.’ And he knew that was like catnip for me.”

The filmmaker continued, “This is really taking the Warrens into uncharted places. Being a fan of the franchise, I was honestly really nervous at first breaking with a lot of things that are tradition, but I think that what we’ve done is really woven the language and the things that you do want from a Conjuring film – the scares, the Warrens, their relationship – and (pushed them) to the limits in this really fresh and exciting new direction.”

Jack Nicholson's 'The Shining' Axe Put on Auction Block

    Instagram

The fake axe which was once used by Nicholson’s character Jack Torrance in the 1980 psychological horror movie is going to the highest bidder in an upcoming auction.

    Apr 25, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
A fake axe used by Jack Nicholson in “The Shining” is up for sale for £45,000 (£62,000).

Movie fans have the chance to get their hands on the iconic horror prop – which the legendary actor’s character Jack Torrance slams into a door while shouting, “Here’s Johnny” after chasing his wife Wendy (Shelly Duvall) because Bristol-based dealer Paul Fraser Collectibles are selling the 35-inch item, which is surprisingly made from foam.

A listing on the dealer’s website reads, “This prop stunt axe was substituted for the original wooden axe as a safety measure and for ease of use during filming.”

“It would have been used in long shots and when two or more characters were on screen.”

The fake axe has been painted to resemble wood grain for the handle and silver tape in place of a metal striking surface, and has a lot of marks and chips on it.

The listing noted, “Displays a pleasing amount of on-set use, including some paint loss to the handle, and slight wrinkling of the silver tape.”

According to the sellers, the prop is one of many axes made for use in the film, but few are still in existence now.

They wrote, “Warner Bros. created several axes for filming The Shining.”

“Just one original wooden axe is thought to remain in existence. It sold for £172,000 ($211,000) in 2019.”

“Only a tiny number of foam versions are believed to still exist. A similar example to ours sold for $57,600 in 2019.”

“A red jacket worn onscreen by Jack Nicholson in the film auctioned for £73,200 ($90,000) in 2017.”

“This is a rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic props in movie history.”

The lucky buyer will receive the axe in a frame, which has been packed to also include an authenticated signed photo of Jack, which was taken during the making of the 1980 movie.

Nicole Kidman's 'Being the Ricardos' Filming at Iconic Chateau Marmont Scrapped Amid Protests

    WENN

Director Aaron Sorkin decides to call off the filming of his new movie at the iconic Sunset Boulevard celebrity hotspot following alleged sexual and racial discrimination at the hotel.

    Apr 25, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Aaron Sorkin cancelled a new film shoot at West Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont after staffers at the popular celebrity hotel reported sexual and racial discrimination while at work.

Just ahead of the weekend’s Academy Awards (25Apr21), at which Sorkin is a favourite to win gold for his “The Trial of the Chicago 7” screenplay, the writer/director scrapped the planned filming for his new Amazon movie, “Being the Ricardos”, which stars Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as “I Love Lucy” stars Lucille Ball and her husband Desi Arnaz.

Sorkin and his producers made the decision after SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and big names including Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen, Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron, and actresses Lena Headey and Edie Falco recently spoke in defence of those employed at the iconic Sunset Boulevard hotspot owned by Andre Balazs.

“Writer-director Aaron Sorkin, the cast and crew of Being the Ricardos stand in solidarity with The Chateau Marmont’s workforce,” producer Todd Black said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, announcing the shoot’s suspension.

“We are committed to supporting and building a safe and equitable environment where everyone has the right to work with dignity and free from fear. We are thankful to the organizers of the hospitality workers’ union of UNITE HERE Local 11 for sharing this information about the mistreatment of the workers. The production took immediate action to shut down the 1-day shoot as soon as this was brought to our attention.”

A statement from Chateau Marmont bosses, meanwhile, reads in part, “Throughout its history, the Chateau Marmont has always been a safe haven for creative people to express themselves in accordance with the First Amendment.”

“Today, Unite Here Local 11 broke that century-long compact by disrupting a union production who had the legal right to film on the hotel property.”

Sorkin and his “Being the Ricardos” castmembers have not yet commented on the drama.

Dave Bautista Gets Candid About Pitching Himself as Batman Villain to Warner Bros

    Instagram

During an appearance at the virtual JusticeCon event, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star reveals his effort in making sure movie studio bosses are clear about his wish to play supervillain Bane.

    Apr 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Guardians of the Galaxy” star Dave Bautista has made his dreams of playing Batman villain Bane clear to movie studio bosses by holding a meeting to express his wishes.

The actor plays Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but almost became a part of the rival DC Comics world when he was offered a role in director James Gunn’s upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie.

He had to turn down the part due to his busy schedule, but Bautista has made no secret on social media of his hopes of one day joining the DC family and heading to Gotham City to take on Batman as supervillain Bane – the character previously brought to life by Tom Hardy in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises”.

Now the wrestler-turned-actor reveals he’s actually taken his request right to the top, with a sit-down with bosses at both Warner Bros. and DC, even though they have no current plans to revive the character.

      See also…

“I want to play Bane so bad I went to Warner Bros., had an appointment with them, had an appointment with DC, walked in the door and said, ‘I want to play Bane,’ ” he explained during a recent appearance at the virtual JusticeCon event.

“I’m not kidding. They were a little like, ‘Woah, we’re not even casting Bane.’ I was like, ‘I don’t care, I’m playing him.’ ”

Bautista still has to wait and see whether his pitch effort will pay off, but he has managed to check another dream role off his list. After failing to be a part of “The Walking Dead”, the 52-year-old landed a role in “Army of the Dead” which will be released on Netflix on May 21.

“I’m a zombie fan. I tried to get on ‘Walking Dead’ for years,” Bautista previously spilled to Empire. “I said I would come and play a zombie for free, but they said, ‘You’re too big!’ ” As for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film, he raved, “What sets us apart is the heist. But there’s a whole bunch of different layers to this film.”

Marvel Developing 'Captain America 4' With 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier' Showrunner

    Marvel Studios

No cast or plotline is announced, but the story will likely continue the question of who is entitled to carry Captain America’s shield following Steve Rogers’ retirement.

    Apr 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Captain America’s lore isn’t going to end just yet in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Chris Evans has bid his farewell to the character in “Avengers: Endgame”, Marvel is still very much keen on continuing the story about his potential successor.

With fans’ equal interest in the idea, the studio is now reportedly developing “Captain America 4”. The project is in the works with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” showrunner Malcolm Spellman as the screenwriter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Spellman, whose notable works also include writing a number of “Empire” episodes, will write the script of the upcoming movie with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the Disney+ series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.

      See also…

No official castings and plotline are announced for the project just yet, but the story will likely continue the question of who is entitled to carry the shield or be the new Captain America. At the end of “Avengers: Endgame”, Steve passed on his shield to Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who is currently one of the central characters on “Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.

However, Sam has never picked up Captain America’s name and continues to use the Falcon moniker on the series as he is questioning how “a black man [can] represent a country that does not represent him” and the series explores how the shield becomes a burden for him. In the last episode of the series, Sam eventually takes up the shield.

There’s no word on whether Evans will return for the fourth movie and no director is attached to the project just yet. Back in January, the 39-year-old hunk laughed off speculation of his return as Captain America, responding to the reports by tweeting it was “news to me.”

His claim was echoed by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige in March. “I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' Holiday Special Confirmed to Take Place After 'Thor 4'

    Walt Disney Pictures

Director James Gunn teases the upcoming Christmas special of the Marvel ragtag team of misfits, claiming it will be set after ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ but before the ‘GOTG 3’.

    Apr 24, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
James Gunn has confirmed he’s working on a “Guardians of the Galaxy” holiday special

The director took to Twitter on Thursday (22Apr21) to post a photograph of the front of a script, which read, “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Written by James ‘Long Elf’ Gunn.”

Captioning the tweet, he wrote, “This is the wrapping. The present is inside. #GotGHS. (sic)”

However, in true fashion, James seemingly didn’t give too much else away.

When someone asked if it would be like the “Star Wars” holiday special or “much better,” James simply replied, “In full disclosure, I loved the Star Wars Holiday Special as a kid.”

And when one fan asked if “this is based after Thor 4 but before Guardians 3,” James confirmed that was the case.

      See also…

James later also revealed it would be a television special rather than a movie and live action like the movie.

Responding to a fan, he wrote, “It’s a television special not a movie.”

The filmmaker admitted he had been working on this project for a little while.

He explained, “I wrote the treatment years ago and just finally finished the script.”

The special is expected to be out around December, 2022.

The Christmas special is going to tide fans over while waiting for the “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”.

Details of the much-anticipated third installment are still scarce, but director James Gunn recently shut down rumors suggesting that former “High School Musical” star Zac Efron was among the new additions to the cast ensemble.
