  • Robert Pattinson Got Caught Lying About 'The Batman' Audition by 'Tenet' Director

    WENN

The former ‘Twilight Saga’ star recalls trying to keep him being in the run to replace Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader a secret from Christopher Nolan while filming their new movie together.
    Aug 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robert Pattinson threw filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s famous secrecy back at him after landing an audition for “The Batman” while filming new movie “Tenet”.
Nolan is well-known for keeping plot and casting details for his films close to his chest, and when his new leading man found out he was in the running to replace Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, he decided to lie about the role.
“It’s funny because Chris is so secretive about everything to do with his movies, and then I had to be really secretive about Batman stuff,” Robert tells The Irish Times. “So I had to lie to Chris about having to go for a screen test. I said I had a family emergency.”
“As soon as I said, ‘It’s a family emergency’, he said, ‘You’re doing ‘The Batman’ audition, aren’t you?’.”
Pattinson’s new movie is now set to be released later this month, while filming on “The Batman” is set to recommence next month after the project was put on ice due to the COVID crisis. It will hit cinemas in October, 2021.
Nolan also has a history with the DC Comics superhero – he directed “The Dark Knight” trilogy with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and his batty alter ego.

  • 'The Batman' Movie to Get Companion TV Show at HBO Max

    Twitter

Matt Reeves, the director of the upcoming Caped Crusader movie, has signed a deal and teamed up with ‘Boardwalk Empire’ creator to explore Gotham in a new series for the HBO streaming site.
    Jul 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Matt Reeves will bring his “The Batman” to life on the small screen after signing a new television series deal.
The director of the much-anticipated new Caped Crusader film, starring Robert Pattinson, is developing a TV companion show, which has been picked up by bosses at new streaming service HBO Max.
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford,” Reeves tells Deadline, revealing he’ll be working alongside writer Terence Winter, “who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption.”
Winter created hit period drama “Boardwalk Empire”.
It is unclear whether Pattinson will appear as the Caped Crusader on the TV show as the series may centre around various characters in the Batman story.
Filming on Reeves’ “The Batman” movie recently resumed in the U.K. following the coronavirus shutdown. It’s due for release in late 2021.

  • Peter Sarsgaard Shares Initial Worry About Intense Character for 'The Batman'

    WENN

Starring opposite Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz in director Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero movie, the ‘Loving Pablo’ actor will be seen as Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson.
    Jun 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Peter Sarsgaard has found his role as Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson in “The Batman” “intense” to film.
The 49-year-old actor spoke to Britain’s The Observer newspaper about working on the movie, also starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz, prior to its shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reflecting on his role, he shared, “My part is very intense. On a big show like that my main concern was that I would have to do it 150 times – this intense scene and then that intense scene.”
“My character is at nine out of 10 for a lot of it,” he explained, “That was going through my head a lot, like ‘How do I maintain this?’ ”
Despite his initial concerns, Sarsgaard gushed over his experience on set, and admitted he feels like he’s in “great hands” with director Matt Reeves.
“The bigger something is the harder it is to keep it pure in terms of vision. And honestly, with Matt Reeves, on ‘The Batman’, he can do it,” he shared. “It’s just such a spectacle. Even on set it’s kind of amazing to see the total professionalism of everyone in their jobs. It’s all the best people at everything.”
“The Batman” is due for release on October 1, 2021.

  • Zoe Kravitz Trying to 'Stay More Focused' Amid 'Pressure' After Landing Catwoman Role

    WENN

The ‘Big Little Lies’ actress says she felt ‘immediate pressure’ after her casting as Selina Kyle in the upcoming Caped Crusader movie is announced to public.
    Jun 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Zoe Kravitz felt “immediate pressure” when she landed the role of Catwoman in upcoming movie “The Batman”, but has no doubt the film will do well because the script is “phenomenal.”
The 31-year-old actress stars as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ latest offering, opposite Robert Pattinson in the titular role. While the coronavirus pandemic has led to the release date being pushed back, Zoe has no doubt fans will love it – but admitted it took her some time to get her head around the fact she is going to be playing the character on screen.
“When the announcement came out that I had gotten this role, my phone rang more than it has ever,” she said on the Variety and iHeart podcast The Big Ticket. “More than my birthday, more than my wedding, more than anything. So I felt that immediate pressure…The script is phenomenal. The story’s really strong. I feel very clear on who Selena is and what she wants, and I’m trying to stay more focused on that.”
And despite the fact that Robert’s casting in the film initially attracted some backlash, Zoe assured fans the former “Twilight” star is the perfect Caped Crusader.
“He’s just a great actor and he brings so much to everything he does,” she said. “I think that it’s a really hard role because people are expecting a lot. Also it’s restricting in a lot of ways. You’re wearing the suit, and you can’t see their eyes, and you can only move in a certain way.”
“So you have to get really creative in terms of how can you portray a multidimensional character? He’s way up for the challenge and has really interesting ideas already. I think he’s perfect, perfect casting.”

Report: Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' Sequel to Introduce a New Joker

According to an industry insider, the director plans to recast the role and feature the new incarnation of the supervillain in the second and third movies.
    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel(s) may feature a new, yet familiar face. Words on the street are the filmmaker is going to include the famous DC Comics villain, the Joker, in his Batman trilogy, with a new actor taking on the role.
According to The Direct, its contributing insider Daniel Richtman reveals that Reeves plans to feature the new incarnation of Joker in the second and third movies as one of the films’ multiple villains. The new Joker will also be referenced in the upcoming “The Batman”, though he likely won’t appear in the film.
The site also notes that casting for the role has not begun yet.
Previously, Robert Pattinson, who is cast as the Caped Crusader in Reeves’ movie, sparked a speculation of a possible crossover with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker following his interview with Variety in 2019. At the time, Variety New York bureau chief Ramin Setoodeh wrote, “At one point in our conversation, [Pattinson] offers a mundane comment about Joaquin Phoenix, who stars in Joker (a movie he hasn’t seen yet), before asking to retract it.”
” ‘Oh s**t,’ he says, adding that he’s not accustomed to thinking about spoilers,” Setoodeh recalled. The British actor went on to tell Setoodeh, “I definitely should not say that. I’m so used to pretty art-house movies, where you can watch the movie three times and still not know what it’s about.”
It’s not clear what spoiler that he might have dropped, but people started speculating about the possible crossover.
Meanwhile, another report by We Got This Covered last April mentioned that the sequel to Reeves’ movie would feature its version of the Joker (or Jokers) taking center stage, along with the beginnings of a full-on love story between Batman and Catwoman, who will be portrayed by Zoe Kravitz in the movie.
The movie production has been halted due to the coronavirus outbreak. The pic has been scheduled for a June 25, 2021 launch. It’s currently unknown if the coronavirus pandemic will affect the release date.

Zoe Kravitz Eager to Be Back Filming 'The Batman' Despite Safety Concerns Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

    WENN

Sharing similar enthusiasm as the actress portraying Catwoman in the Matt Reeves-directed blockbuster is co-star Colin Farrell who has been tapped to play The Penguin.
    May 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Zoe Kravitz can’t wait to get back to filming “The Batman” in London, even though she doesn’t know how movie bosses will keep her safe amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The actress was portraying Catwoman in director Matt Reeves’ new blockbuster before production was shut down in March, and she admits that because the role involved costume and make-up supervisors touching her face and skin all day, she’s not sure how they’ll make her look good if they have to keep their distance once the cameras start rolling again.
“You have people just touching your face, touching your body all day long,” Zoe tells Variety. “I need help getting into the catsuit. I can’t do it on my own.”
“I was probably touched more (on this film) than any job, just because of the clothes and the combat and all of that.”
But Zoe insists she will be ready to go back to work when she gets the OK: “I’m hoping to wake up every day to an email or a phone call saying, ‘We’re ready to go!’ I’m in touch with everybody, and everyone’s ready to go when it’s safe.”
She’s not the only castmate raring to go – Colin Farrell is also keen to get back to the set to pick up where he left off with villain The Penguin.
He recently said, “It’s all exciting, to be a part of that universe… I really am so excited to get back and explore it. I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means, but there are a couple of tasty scenes I have in it… It feels original and fun, but I am only at the start of the journey.”

Robert Pattinson Wants to Set Precedent as He Refuses to Workout for 'The Batman'

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The ‘Twilight’ actor rules out training to bulk up his frame because he wants a natural look for his Caped Crusader role in the upcoming DC Comics superhero movie.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robert Pattinson won’t be hitting the gym to play Batman as he wants to emulate movie legends of the past by having a more natural look.
The “Twilight” star, 34, is the latest actor to take on the superhero role in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”, which was being shot in London before the U.K.’s Covid-19 lockdown halted filming in March 2020.
However, he unlike past incumbents like Christian Bale and Ben Affleck, he won’t use the extra time to bulk up his frame before shooting resumes.
“I think if you’re working out all the time, you’re part of the problem,” he tells GQ magazine. “You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the ’70s. Even James Dean – he wasn’t exactly ripped.”
According to the actor his co-star, Zoe Kravitz, who will play Catwoman”, has been keeping to a gruelling fitness plan but he is “barely doing anything.”
He is, however, sticking to a diet given to him by producers – as it’s ensuring he eats correctly rather than keeping his own bizarre food choices.
“I’m essentially on a meal plan for Batman,” Robert explains. “Thank God. I don’t know what I’d be doing other than that. But I mean, yeah, other than (that) – I can survive. I’ll have oatmeal with, like, vanilla protein powder on it.
“And I will barely even mix it up. It’s extraordinarily easy. Like, I eat out of cans and stuff. I’ll literally put Tabasco inside a tuna can and just eat it out of the can.”
“The Batman” hits cinemas in October 2021.
