The Weeknd's 'New Face' in 'Save Your Tears' Music Video Shocks Fans

    [embedded content]

Continuing the narrative of his ‘After Hours’ visuals, the ‘Blinding Lights’ crooner reveals what’s really going on underneath the bandages that covered his face at the 2020 American Music Awards last November.

    Jan 6, 2021
AceShowbiz – The Weeknd has kicked off the new year with something a little extra. The Canadian singer released a music video for his single “Save Your Tears” on Tuesday, January 5, shocking fans with his “new face.”
Continuing the narrative of his “After Hours” visuals, the three-time Grammy Award-winning artist unveils what was really going on underneath the bandages that he sported on his face at the 2020 American Music Awards last November. He debuts faux facial enhancements gone wrong in the new clip as he belts out the song at a creepy masquerade show where all the guests are masked up.
The “Can’t Feel My Face” crooner displays a thinned and crooked nose, bloated cheeks, puffed-up lips and surgery scars as part of the disturbing alterations to his face. “But then you saw me, caught you by surprise,” he sings in the song, perfectly reflecting the reactions of his fans after watching the video.

“Why does The Weeknd look like that in the Save Your Tears music video!?! I don’t like it,” a horrified fan commented. Another quipped, “i bet he really cant feel his face now,” referencing to his 2018 hit “Can’t Feel My Face”.
“Thanks for the nightmares,” another shocked fan reacted. “What in the jigsaw f**k is this!!!” read a fourth comment, while another said, “I refuse to believe he wanted to look like the vampire from Brooklyn when he was dying.”
The Weeknd has not explained the idea behind his “Save Your Tears” music video, but he followed up the video release with a behind-the-scenes selfie, giving a close-up look at his exaggerated new look, which was seemingly achieved with prosthetic. He left it captionless, as one cheeky user called him “HANDSOME SQUIDWARD” in the comment section.

The Weeknd previously sported a bloodied face in “Blinding Lights” music video and had his decapitated head reattached onto another man’s body in the even gorier “Too Late” clip. Both songs and “Save Your Tears” are all lifted off his fourth studio album “After Hours”, which debuted atop Billboard 200 in March 2020.

The Weeknd Hints at Political Album as He Feels 'More Inspired' Than Ever During Pandemic

    Instagram

The ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker has seemingly suggested that he’s got so much to say about the world in his next studio installment due to the events happening this year.

    Dec 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Weeknd has been “more inspired and creative” than ever this year.
The singer – real name is Abel Tesfaye – admitted the follow-up record to 2020’s “After Hours” is likely to be more political than his previous albums because he’s got so much to say about the world following the coronavirus pandemic, the divisive state of U.S. politics, and the Black Lives Matter protests that took place around the globe this year.
“I have been more inspired and creative during the pandemic than I might normally be,” he told Tmrw magazine. “The pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the tensions of the U.S. election have mostly created a sense of gratitude for what I have and closeness with the people near me.”
The “Blinding Lights” hitmaker recently branded the Grammy Awards “corrupt” after he was snubbed for any nominations for the critically-acclaimed “After Hours” and revealed he’d been planning to perform at the ceremony until he was overlooked.

In a series of tweets, he wrote, “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”
“Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited! (sic)”
Following The Weeknd’s initial comments, Grammy bosses insisted they were “surprised” he wasn’t up for a gong, and blamed the lack of nods on there being “fewer” to hand out “than the number of deserving artists.”
Recording Academy Chair Harvey Mason Jr. said, “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated. I was surprised and can empathise with what he’s feeling.”
“His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration. Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists. All Grammy nominees are recognised by the voting body for their excellence, and we congratulate them all.”

The Weeknd Teams Up With Rosalia for 'Blinding Lights' Remix

The ‘After Hours’ star has recorded a Latin remix of his 2019 hit single with Spanish singer Rosalia and released it to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the smash hit.

    Dec 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – R&B superstar The Weeknd has given his smash hit “Blinding Lights” a Latin revamp with the help of singer Rosalia to celebrate the song’s one-year anniversary.
The Canadian artist, who was sensationally snubbed in the Grammy Awards nominations last month (Nov20), teased the collaboration by sharing a photo of the pair on Instagram on Thursday (03Dec20), hours before the “Blinding Lights Remix” premiered on Friday.
Rosalia opens the track in Spanish, before switching to English as The Weeknd joins in for the chorus. She changes languages again towards the end of the tune, before The Weeknd closes out the single in English.

The song revamp is sure to boost the popularity of “Blinding Lights”, which was certified platinum in the U.S. in just four months, and was just named Spotify’s most-streamed song globally in 2020.

The song was taken from The Weeknd’s latest studio album “After Hours”. Despite having a commercially and critically lauded album and single, the artist didn’t get any nominations at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
“The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…,” he blasted the Recording Academy.
He later added, “Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!”
The comment sparked speculation The Weeknd and Grammy bosses clashed over his decision to headline the Super Bowl, but Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason, Jr. insisted that’s not the case.
“To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process,” the Grammy boss claimed.

    Nov 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake has voiced his support for The Weeknd after the latter got snubbed at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Upon learning that the “Blinding Lights” hitmaker did not receive any nominations for the 63rd annual music awards, the “Toosie Slide” rapper suggested it is a “great time for somebody to start something new.”
The 34-year-old offered his two cents on the drama via Instagram Story on Wednesday, November 25. “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” he began.
“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways. The other day I said @TheWeeknd was a lock for either Album or Song of the Year along with reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way,” the MC continued. “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”

Reacting to The Weeknd’s jab, Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason Jr. insisted that his lack of nominations had nothing to do with his upcoming Super Bowl gig. “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated,” he said in a statement. “I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. Grammys Explain The Weeknd Snub After Singer Calls Them Out as 'Corrupt'

    Instagram

Words are the ‘Blinding Lights’ singer lost his chance to get nominated for the 2021 Grammy Awards after given ultimatum to choose whether to perform at the event or Super Bowl LV.

    Nov 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Recording Academy has spoken up amid the backlash over The Weeknd snub at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Despite still being one of the most celebrated artists in the industry today, the Canadian star who released his latest album “After Hours” in March didn’t get any nomination for the 63rd annual ceremony.
Speaking to Billboard on the eve of nomination announcement, the Recording Academy’s interim President/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. briefly touched on The Weeknd snub, insinuating that the “Save Your Tears” crooner didn’t receive any nomination simply because he lost the spot to other artists. “For The Weeknd, in every year you only have a certain amount of people you can nominate for each category,” Mason said.
Mason also explained Harry Styles’ absence on the “Big Four” categories, despite him still receiving nominations in other categories such as Best Music Video and Best Pop Vocal Album. As for Harry, he has some great nominations this year [even though he wasn’t nominated in the top categories],” he said. “We are excited about some of the other categories where he was nominated. It’s never easy to tell where people are going to land.”
Mason added that The Academy had a “very diverse group of new voters” and didn’t have much to say when it was noted that these “new voters” seemed to value rising, lesser-known artists than those who have established careers and bodies of work. “[Hesitantly] Yeah, it’s interesting,” Mason admitted.

Elsewhere in the interview, Mason doubled down on his explanation, “From year to year, it is really hard to predict who is going to be nominated and who’s not. I personally wish we could give everybody a nomination, but there are only a certain amount of slots. There were some amazing records that did not get nominated.”
Meanwhile, The Weeknd has lashed out at The Academy, which he deemed “corrupt” for denying him any nomination. “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…,” he demanded on Tuesday, November 24 after the nominations were announced.

TMZ additionally reported that the singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, likely got snubbed for the Grammy nominations after testy talks with Grammy brass about him performing at the Grammys and Super Bowl LV. The organization allegedly issued an ultimatum for the singer to choose either one of the events.
Both parties eventually agreed that The Weeknd could do both, but the bitter back-and-forth reportedly pissed off Grammy honchos, which might have cost him the Grammy nominations.
