Justin Bieber's biggest controversies – paparazzi clash, bucket wee and spitting

As Justin Bieber celebrates another year around the sun, we take a look at some of his most controversial moments. And there are a few…

The singing sensation has luckily made a comeback from them all, proving it’s not ever “too late to say sorry”.

After rising to fame after being discovered by Usher as a young boy, Justin has had more than his fair share of some seriously scandalous moments.

It didn’t help as he grew up under the spotlight with any and every hiccup being caught on camera, including his infamous clash with paparazzi and his questionable Anne Frank comment.

Let’s take a look at his biggest blunders…

Car carnage

Justin Bieber has turned 28

At 23 years old, he lost his temper with a group of paparazzi who were following his every move.

And the star cut it a little too close while driving his car and appeared to head straight towards the camera clickers.

A source told People at the time, that as the pop star was attempting to leave a church in Beverly Hills, a bunch of photographers were waiting for him at the end of the driveway.

The insider told the publication: “He tried to scare away the paparazzi. But as he neared the group, he accidentally hit one of the photographers who was in his path.”

The man who was hit had to be taken to a local hospital, Cedars-Sinai hospital, which serves southern California, for “non-life-threatening injuries”, according to a spokesman from Beverly Hills Police Department.

Cancelling tour

In July 2017, Justin’s global fan base, aka Beliebers, were left extremely disappointed with the star.

Almost 18 months into his Purpose world tour, the singer decided to cancel the rest of the planned dates.

At the time, his rep claimed it was cancelled “due to unforeseen circumstances”.

However, fans demanded more answers, which led to Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, releasing his own statement.

It read: “On behalf of myself, Justin, and the team, we are sorry. That was never our intent. But a man’s soul and well being I truly care about came first and we must all respect and honour that. Justin will be back and I know he looks forward to performing for you and with you all again. One chapter ends and another begins. Thank you again.”

Egging his neighbour

You might think that being Justin Bieber’s neighbour would be something to shout about, but in this case, it really was…

In 2014, he vandalised the home of Jeffrey Schwartz in Calabasas, California, by throwing eggs at his property.

This led to the angry neighbour reporting him to the police.

It was later revealed that their feud had been ongoing, with Justin accused of previously spitting in his neighbour’s face after he was asked to drive slower around the neighbourhood.

According to People: “Bieber pleaded no contest to a charge of misdemeanour vandalism, received two years of probation and already paid Schwartz $89,000 in restitution for damages to his home.”

Abortion views

He shared some strange views during a Rolling Stone interview

Even as a teenager, Justin was hitting the headlines, and not always for the right reasons.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, a 16-year-old Justin was asked for his stance on abortion, with him saying: “I really don’t believe in abortion. It’s like killing a baby.”

He also shared his thoughts on women who choose abortion in cases of rape.

Justin added: “Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.”

Anne Frank comment

He hoped that Anne Frank would have been a Belieber

In 2013, at 19 years old, Justin paid the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam a visit.

During his trip in the Holland capital city, he signed the guestbook with words that are sure to haunt him forever.

He penned: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here,” he penned. “Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber.”

Problem with Prince

When music icon Prince passed away in 2016, many fans and celebs alike took to social media to share a tribute to the legend.

At the time, musician Andrew Watt shared: “Today waking up to this news I am truly beside myself devastated the last of the greatest living performers my guitar idol.”

To which, Justin reportedly commented on the post: “Well not the last greatest living performer.”

Justin’s team claimed it was curated with a fraud comment, however, many fans were not convinced.

Spitting on fans

His reps claimed the singer never directly spat on fans

The same year, Justin was also accused of spitting on his fans from a balcony.

The singer looked down from the balcony of his hotel room and was seen spitting below, which led to his fans being showered with his saliva, with Bieber laughing.

However, the Intentions star’s rep later came forward and said: “Justin didn’t spit on anyone. No fans were below the balcony.

“In fact, earlier in the day, Justin bought his fans hot chocolate and played them some of his new music. Justin loves his fans.”

Urinating in a bucket

Justin is apparently still convinced that he did nothing wrong by weeing in a mop bucket at a restaurant kitchen.

The star hit headlines in 2013 when footage emerged of him relieving himself in the food preparation area at a New York City establishment.

At the time he told Complex magazine: “Honestly, I think the p***ing in the bucket wasn’t as big as people made it seem. Imagine, you hear that f***ing Ozzy Osbourne p***es backstage. Immediately, ‘Oh, he’s a freaking rock star!’ As soon as I do it, ‘He’s being a brat.’

“Dude, what is bratty about p***ing in a bucket? I had to go p*** – we all have to pee… The bathroom was like on the other side… It wasn’t like I was being disrespectful. I feel like that was pretty ostracising – bigger than it should’ve been.”

Orlando Bloom fight

According to TMZ, Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom threw a punch at Justin in an Ibiza restaurant back in 2014.

According to two eyewitnesses, Justin apparently fled the restaurant but sparked the fury by antagonising Orlando about his then-wife Miranda Kerr, whom he reportedly got closer with at a prior Victoria’s Secret event.

There was differing reports at the time, with one source suggesting Justin had attempted to walk away before the incident escalated, while another claimed Justin had spoke about sleeping with Miranda.

Pet monkey

His former pet is apparently still struggling with being at the zoo

Bieber had received a pet monkey as an unexpected birthday gift and tried to take it to Germany on tour.

However, it was seized at customs and placed under quarantine, which then left the singer until May that year to produce paperwork to retrieve his monkey, however, he failed to do so and it was passed over to a zoo in Hodenhagen.

But the saddest part is, that it has been reported that the Capuchin monkey is still struggling to integrate into the zoo years later.
