    May 4, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actress Thomasin McKenzie is set to spring into action as the star of Olivia Wilde’s biopic about U.S. Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug.

“Perfect (2022)” will chronicle the athlete’s heroic performance at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, where she won the nation’s hearts by completing a final, gold medal-winning vault in the team competition on a badly injured ankle that later required treatment for ligament damage.

The film will serve as Wilde’s next directorial project, and now rising New Zealand-born star McKenzie, who landed her breakout role in 2018 drama “Leave No Trace”, has been recruited to lead the cast, reports Deadline.

About McKenzie’s casting, Wilde said in an Instagram post, “One reason I needed to direct movies was to work with genius women in great roles worthy of their skills. This story is complicated and challenging and heartbreaking and beautiful, and I could not imagine a better partner to tell it with than Thomasin.”

The “Richard Jewell” actress, who made her directorial debut with “Booksmart”, went on to shower the “Jojo Rabbit” actress with praise. “She is fearless, ladies and gentlemen,” the older woman declared in her post. “I bow down.”

The movie will be based on Strug’s memoir, “Landing on My Feet, a Diary of Dreams”, which has been adapted into a script by “Borg/McEnroe” screenwriter Ronnie Sandahl. In addition to the writing gig, Sandahl will also serve as producer alongside Nik Bower and Jeremy Baxter for Riverstone Pictures and Thomas Benski and Moss Barclay for Pulse Films

Production is expected to begin this autumn. The project itself is described as “an intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination.”

Josh Duhamel Praises 'Absolute Pro' Jennifer Lopez Post-'Shotgun Wedding' Filming

    Lionsgate

Looking back at his experience shooting the romcom in the Dominican Republic, the former ‘Las Vegas’ star gushes that the ‘On the Floor’ hitmaker was ‘a dream to work with.’

    May 4, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Josh Duhamel has hailed Jennifer Lopez “a dream to work with”. The actor plays “On the Floor” star Jennifer’s on-screen love interest Tom in the upcoming rom-com “Shotgun Wedding” and admitted shooting the flick in the Dominican Republic with Jennifer was the best experience of his career so far.

“It was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had shooting, or working in this business,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “First of all, we’re in the Dominican Republic, which is absolutely beautiful. Jen was a dream to work with, she’s an absolute pro and totally engaged and loved the project.”

The pair have been good friends for a long time so it was a breeze, with Josh adding, “We had a great relationship. I’ve known her forever so it was easy for us to get in lock and step.”

“The crew, the cast, we have a great cast and Jason Moore, the director, it was one of those situations that everything kind of fit perfectly. I’m very proud of the way it turned out and I can’t wait for it all to come together.”

The plot follows Tom and Darcy (Jennifer) as their “extravagant destination wedding is hijacked by criminals”. Josh took over the lead role from Armie Hammer, who has been accused by multiple women of being controlling and abusive in relationships, while exhibiting odd sex fetishes and cannibalistic fantasies.

Armie announced his exit in mid-January. In a released statement, he said, “…in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic.” He has since also been accused of rape, which is currently under investigation by Los Angeles Police.

Zack Snyder Spills on Removal of Zombie Stripper From 'Army of the Dead'

    WENN/FayesVision

Less than two weeks before his heist thriller hits select theaters, the ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ director also stresses that any references to the global health crisis were purely coincidental.

    May 4, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Zack Snyder removed a zombie stripper from “Army of the Dead”.

The filmmaker’s latest movie sees a group of mercenaries venturing into quarantined Las Vegas, which has been hit by a zombie outbreak, to pull off a heist.

And although there are a number of outrageous scenes and characters – including footage of undead Liberace, Elvis Presley, a horse and even a tiger – there was a point where he felt his ideas had gone too far.

“We had a sequence where one of the male strippers had a huge penis with a bite taken out of it. We thought that was too much,” he admitted.

The film finished shooting before the coronavirus pandemic hit and Zack insisted any references to the global health crisis – including temperature checks being undertaken on humans in the locked-down area – were purely coincidental.

      See also…

“All coincidental! But the more I saw what was happening, I didn’t know if the movie would be cathartic or scary,” he told Sunday Times Culture magazine.

However, he insisted it was important the movie featured “social commentary” that people could relate to, despite the outlandish theme.

“But of course George Romero said it was all social commentary. And we felt obliged to do that with this movie,” he said.

“Editorialize a little bit and zombie movies are a great place to talk about us as a people. Ours is a monster movie where the monster is us. It is a social movie more than a science movie – the science is pretty iffy.”

“Army of the Dead” hits select theaters on May 14, with a streaming release by Netflix on May 21.

Hugh Jackman Enlists NY Cop to Pressure Ryan Reynolds Into Getting Him in 'Deadpool 3'

    20th Century Fox/

In a video posted on his social media accounts, an officer named John Dobkowski tells the ‘Deadpool’ star to get the ‘Logan’ actor in the upcoming movie, or else he will be ticketing Reynolds.

    May 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
After years of eluding Ryan Reynolds’ relentless pleas to star in a Deadpool movie, Hugh Jackman has now turned the tables on his frenemy. Enlisting the help of a police officer, the Australian hunk pressured the Canadian-born actor to cast him in “Deadpool 3”.

In a video posted on his social media pages on Saturday, May 1, Jackman filmed a fan and officer with the New York City Parks Department named John Dobkowski who said, “Hey Ryan, you’ve got to get this guy in Deadpool 3. Even if it is for a 10-minute cameo, that would be awesome.” He went on predicting the outcome of the two actors’ supposed collaboration, “That movie will be so cool, so great. It would blow the box office.”

Jackman then suggested the officer to issue a faux threat to Reynolds, which Dobkowski willingly complied with. “Or I’ll ticket you,” he warned the “Deadpool” star if Jackman doesn’t appear in the movie.

In the caption, Jackman wrote, “Office Dobkowski is doling out incredibly smart career advice for you @vancityreynolds. Sharing is caring.”

      See also…

Reynolds has not publicly responded to Jackman’s post, but he will likely gladly follow the advice. Jackman, on the other hand, might be only joking with the video as he has been adamant about hanging his adamantium claws after 2017’s “Logan”.

“If seven years ago that had happened I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah!’ but I knew it was the right time for me to leave the party – not just for me, but for the character,” Jackman told The Daily Beast of reprising the role after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

The 52-year-old is even ready to see his character being played by a younger actor, saying, “Somebody else will pick it up and run with it. It’s too good of a character not to. It’s kind of like, you’re on your way home and your friend rings you and goes, ‘Oh, dude, a new DJ just came on and the music is awesome, are you going to come back?’ And you say, ‘Sounds good but… no.’ They’re fine with someone else.”

Meanwhile, Reynolds continues to joke that a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover was on the brain. “…before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real,” he joked back in January.

In the same month, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that Reynolds has been working a script for “Deadpool 3”, but “it will not be [filming] this year” because “Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor.” He went on assuring that “it will be rated R.”

Danny Huston Recalls Desperation to Impress Director Father With Own Skills

    WENN/Avalon

Serving behind the lens for the first time in 20 years, ‘The Last Photograph’ helmer looks back at time time his legendary father John Huston gave one of his first lessons in directing.

    May 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Danny Huston was always keen to impress his late father, filmmaking icon John Huston, with his own directing skills.

The 58-year-old star has directed his first movie for over 20 years, “The Last Photograph”, and revealed he would have liked to have done more behind the camera but was unable to find support for his films.

“I started off as a director,” he said. “I just sort of fell into acting because I wasn’t able to get my directing projects off the ground and friends started casting me in their films out of the kindness of their hearts.”

Huston is also the star of the film, playing Tom Hammond, who searches for a stolen photograph of his son Luke, who was killed during the Lockerbie plane bombing in Scotland in 1988 – and describes the flick as “simple” and “beautiful”.

      See also…

Danny’s filmmaker father John, who died in 1987, wrote the screenplays for most of the 37 feature films he directed, many of which are considered classics, including “The Maltese Falcon”, “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre”, and “The African Queen”. And the actor/ director recalled being desperate to impress him with his own skills behind the camera.

The “Angel Has Fallen” star shared, “When I studied at the London International Film School, not a lot of fuss was made about it. I felt more pressure from my father.”

“I remember I had a little Super 8 camera and I was filming everywhere and everything, and he would be like, ‘Stop that! What are you doing? When you look from right to left and left to right, what do you do?’ ”

“I said, ‘I don’t know, Dad.’ He said, ‘You blink. That’s a cut. Concentrate on what it is you are trying to say and forget all of the nonsense.’ That was one of my first lessons. I was so proud when I directed a title sequence for him for his film ‘Under The Volcano’ and it made the cut.”
